Puppy Matchmaking
Australian Labradoodles are known for being people-focused, gentle and highly trainable, and generations of like-to-like breeding make them wonderfully consistent. But every litter still has its own cast of characters: the explorer, the cuddler, the comedian. Matchmaking is how we make sure the right one goes home with you.
How our matchmaking works
We get to know you
Your Puppy Application tells us who is at home, what your days look like and what you are hoping for. The more you share, the better the match.
We get to know each puppy
Because our breeding dogs live with their guardian families, we have all the time in the world for each litter. And because we run our own in-house training program, we’ve watched litter after litter grow up: how the personality we see at 8 weeks plays out on the leash, in the crate, meeting new people and settling into family life. Knowing how each personality develops lets us look past who a puppy is today to who they’re likely to become, and that makes us better at matching every puppy, whichever option you choose.
We make the match
At 6 to 7 weeks, once personalities have blossomed, we match you with the puppy we believe is your best fit. We keep your sex, color and coat preferences in mind, and always put the right personality first.
Your puppy comes home
Companion puppies go home at 8 weeks, Pre-School Puppies at 12 weeks and Kindergarten Puppies at 15 weeks.
What we look for
Energy, on our 1 to 10 scale
Puppies around a 5, 6 or 7 have the bounce and resilience to thrive in a city, keep up with an active household or hang out with teens. Our quieter puppies are a lovely fit for older adults or calm homes that want a gentler companion.
Resilience
Some puppies shrug off a dropped pan or a busy sidewalk and carry right on. That confidence helps in lively, ever-changing homes.
Play style
Some puppies play with gentle paws, and some play with a little more gusto. If a puppy’s play is spirited enough to make its littermates squeak, that’s something we watch for: it can be a great fit for a home of adults, but isn’t the best match for small children. Our gentler players are wonderful with little ones. It’s simply one of the details we look at so every puppy lands in just the right home.
Training makes a great match even better
Our Pre-School and Kindergarten Puppies stay with us for 4 or 7 weeks of training, without treats, working on loose-leash walking, sit, stay and come, crate and house training, and good manners. Kindergarten Puppies also train in a real home. Those extra weeks let us get to know your puppy even better and send them home ready for your family’s routine. See Trained Puppies.
How you can help
Be honest and detailed on your application: a normal weekday, who lives at home (two- and four-legged) and how active your household is. Then let us do what we love.
